What is bifocal glasses?

Bifocal glasses are eyeglasses that have two different prescriptions in the same lens. This allows the wearer to see clearly at both near and far distances without needing to switch between different pairs of glasses.

The lower portion of the lens is typically for reading or close-up tasks, while the upper portion is for distance vision. The two parts of the lens are separated by a visible line, making it easy for the wearer to switch between the two prescriptions by simply looking through the appropriate part of the lens.

Bifocal glasses are often prescribed for individuals who have presbyopia, a condition that affects the eye's ability to focus on close objects as they age. They are also commonly used by individuals who have both near and far-sightedness.

There are different types of bifocals, including flat-top, round segment, and blended designs. Additionally, some modern bifocal lenses are available with a gradual transition between the two prescriptions, making the line less noticeable.
